26th February 2021
Dear Parent / Carer
Following the government’s announcement on the 22nd of February 2021, I am pleased to be able to notify you of our intentions for a wider opening of the college, to all students as from the 8th of March 2021. However, we are aware that some students who are Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV) and have been advised to shield until the 31st March, are not able to return to college at the moment. If your child is CEV and you want them to return to college, they can do so, please contact me to discuss this if it is relevant to you. 80% of our students have confirmed that they will be returning to college, therefore all college staff are back in work from 1st March to ensure that we are ready to return to a full curriculum offer by the 8th March. For those students who are remaining at home, on-line learning will be available and home learning packs will be sent out. There will be designated staff to support all home learning.
The college has up-dated the Risk Assessment, which you can access on the college website and has put together a re-engagement plan following the Government and the Department for Education guidelines.
We will be strengthening our protective measures and following the guidelines which states that students and staff who are not exempt should wear face masks on site, including in the classroom. As our students have special educational needs and disabilities it is not compulsory that they wear a mask, it is their choice. If they do choose to wear a mask it must be clean and changed daily.
Thorough cleaning regimes and Personal Protective Equipment are in place and emphasis on social distancing and hand washing will be re-emphasised to students upon their return to college. We have purchased air sanitising ‘foggers’ which will be used regularly to deep clean classrooms and for use on the mini buses and staff will continually clean all touch points throughout the college during the day.
Lateral flow testing has been set up in the college for students and staff. Where you have given permission, we will carry out 3 tests on your child in college and then supply each child with home testing kits from the 15th of March 2021. We will send more information out to you including a video on how to carry out the test nearer the time. All staff will be tested twice a week. Since January we have only had one member of staff test positive, we were able to evacuate all staff who had been in close contact and no more positive cases have been identified. College staff have received their first vaccination. Students have been issued a date and time week beginning 1st March to have their first test, please ensure that they arrive on time and are able to return home after 30 minutes.
As from the 8th March all students will follow their timetable as before lockdown, we are staggering the start and finishing times to avoid pinch points as follows:
|Group||Start time||Finish time|
|LIVE||9.15am||3.45pm Monday to Thursday 3.00pm on Friday|
|THRIVE||9.30am||4.00pm Monday to Thursday 3.15pm on Friday|
|STRIVE||10.00am||3.30pm Monday to Thursday 3.00pm on Friday|
Please note: The college café will not be serving any food or drink during the week beginning 8th March, students must bring with them all food and drink that they require for the day. We will inform you when the café will be open.
If your child has been issued with a college laptop or tablet, please return this on their first day back in college. For those students who are remaining at home you can continue to use the college devices.
